Refuted to be the oldest structure used as a bar in the United States, Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop, dates back to 1722. Located on the corner of Bourbon and St. Philip, this property between 1722 and 1791 is believed to have been the New Orleans base for the the Lafitte Brothers, Jean and Pierre, Barataia smuggling operation. Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is a mix of truth and French, Spanish, African, Cajun and American embellishments. When you combine a piano, a bar, and one or maybe two fabulous hurricanes, one is surely to fall in love with this oldest bar in the USA.
