Located at 923 Decatur Street in the French Quarter, Central Grocery is a small, old-fashioned Italian grocery store.  It is known for its sandwich counter that serves up the infamous muffuletta sandwich invented by Salvatore Lupo, the founder of Central Grocery.  This sandwich was created to feed the Sicilian truck farmers who sold their produce at the farmer’s market on Decatur Street.  This little store also sells Italian, Greek, French, Spanish and Creole table delicacies. You can even find delicacies such as chocolate covered grasshoppers and bumble bees in soy sauce.
